A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Dr. Lorenzo P. McNeal; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Dr. Lorenzo P. McNeal on March 15, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a native of Evans County, Georgia, Dr. McNeal attended Savannah State College and Johnson C. Smith Seminary and received a Doctorate of Ministry from Union Theological Seminary and several certificates of merit and completion from the University of Georgia and Armstrong State College; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McNeal was the pastor in several churches in Savannah, Albany, Patterson, Waycross, Sylvania, Reidsville, and Cobbtown for 45 years, including Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church and Historic Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, he served in numerous organizations, including St. Joseph Lodge number 76, Claxton Kiwanis Club, Lamar Carter Consistory 32 degree, two Ministerial Associations, the Georgia Association of Broadcasters, and the Evans County Chapter of the NAACP; and

WHEREAS, he worked as program director and general manager of WCLA, AM Radio Station in Claxton where he hosted Rejoicing in the Morning and worked as a radio announcer with several stations in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Dr. McNeal will long be remembered for his love of God, family, and friendship, and will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Dr. Lorenzo P. McNeal and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Dr. Lorenzo P. McNeal.
