A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mrs. Jean Anderson Morgan; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Jean Anderson Morgan has long been recognized by the citizens of this state
for the vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal
commitment to the education of the students of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Morgan served as first chair and remains an active member of the East
Georgia College Foundation; and
WHEREAS,
established in 1973 by citizens of Emanuel County, East Georgia College has
evolved from a two-year commuter college to a residential state college;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Morgan has generously provided funding for the Vision Series cultural and
educational enrichment programs at East Georgia College since 1999;
and
WHEREAS,
born into a newspaper family, Mrs. Morgan brought her background in newspaper
work and a tradition of helping others when she came to East Georgia College;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Morgan began writing a front-page column for her father's weekly paper in
Tennessee at the age of 14 and eventually took over as editor of the paper for
12 years; and
WHEREAS,
she has helped provide scholarships and cultural opportunities to countless
students and community folks over the past 39 years; and
WHEREAS,
she recently made a donation to the college's Lyceum Program, whose efforts are
directed toward bringing notable writers, artists, and musicians to the college;
and
WHEREAS,
she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state as
evidenced dramatically by her superlative service with East Georgia College;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Morgan's significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable
patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the
needs of the citizens of this state have earned her the respect and admiration
of her colleagues and associates; and
WHEREAS,
East Georgia College is dedicating the Jean Anderson Morgan Student Center to
Mrs. Morgan for her contributions to the students in this state, and it is
abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary commitment and
accomplishments of this outstanding individual be appropriately
recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Mrs. Jean Anderson Morgan for her sacrifice, foresight, dedication, and
contributions on behalf of education in Georgia, congratulate her for her many
accolades, and recognize the positive influence she has had upon the lives and
futures of countless young people in this state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Jean Anderson Morgan.
