RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. James W. Weeks; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. James W. Weeks was born on February 1, 1936, in Pinewood, South Carolina, a
beloved son of James W. Weeks and Margie B. Weeks; and
WHEREAS,
his parents passed away during his childhood, and he and his siblings were
raised by his grandmother and stepmother; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Weeks graduated from Darlington School in Rome, Georgia, and attended
Clemson University; and
WHEREAS,
he joined the United States Navy in 1956 and was accepted to the Navy's Aviation
Cadet Program and trained in Pensacola, Florida; and
WHEREAS,
he volunteered for the Navy's Antarctic support squadron, flying scientists,
equipment, and supplies, as well as conducting arial surveys, during which time
he made two trips to the South Pole Station, 9,000 feet above sea level on top
of 10,000 feel of ice and snow; and
WHEREAS,
the government of New Zealand honored Mr. Weeks by naming Mount Weeks after him;
and
WHEREAS,
he served 12 years in the Navy, leaving with the rank of lieutenant and having
received numerous honors, including an Air Medal and an Antarctic Medal;
and
WHEREAS,
after leaving the Navy, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted
innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his
community and state as evidenced dramatically by his superlative service with
Delta Airlines as a pilot for 28 years;
and
WHEREAS, a person of magnanimous strengths, he is a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and neighbor with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and
WHEREAS, a person of magnanimous strengths, he is a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and neighbor with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Weeks has served with honor and distinction, and his vision and unyielding
commitment have set the standard for public service; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Mr. James W. Weeks for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public
service to the State of Georgia and this nation.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. James W. Weeks.
