RESOLUTION
Recognizing
the second Wednesday of April of 2012 as Button Gwinnett Day at the capitol; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Button Gwinnett was a signer of the Declaration of Independence for the
State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Gwinnett County was named in honor of Mr. Button Gwinnett; and
WHEREAS,
Georgia Gwinnett College honored our founding father's contributions to our
liberties by holding an event, "Button Gwinnett Day, Celebrating the Past,
Present, and Future," on the second Wednesday of April of 2011; and
WHEREAS,
Georgia Gwinnett College is making this an annual celebration with the second
event scheduled for the second Wednesday of April of 2012; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that this distinguished Georgian be
appropriately honored.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
the second Wednesday of April of 2012 as Button Gwinnett Day at the capitol.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the public and the press.
