A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Whitefield Academy boys varsity basketball team on their third Class A State Championship; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, through perseverance and iron determination, the Whitefield Academy boys varsity basketball team finished their 29-3 season with a 73-49 win against Athens Christian; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team; their superb offensive and defensive talents; and the astute direction of Head Coach Tyrone Johnson and Assistant Coaches Eddie James and Steve Simpson; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Tyrone Johnson is one of only two Cobb County basketball coaches to win three championships over the last decade; and

WHEREAS, the Whitefield Academy boys varsity basketball team includes Lorenzo Carter, Jordan Coar, Humberto Dryden, Kenneth Gaines, Kristopher Martin, Matthew Olson, Braelen Phillips, Khalen Pinkett, Everett Pollard, and Gerald Render; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with precision and determination over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Whitefield Academy boys varsity basketball team on winning their third Class A State Championship.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Whitefield Academy boys varsity basketball team.
