RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mrs. Betty Herron Stonecypher; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Betty Herron Stonecypher was born on May 18, 1930, in Martin, Georgia, the
beloved daughter of Jasper and Lucy Herron; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Stonecypher was united in love and marriage to the late James "Jim" Groves
Stonecypher on January 28, 1950, who served as a guardian of the nation's
freedom and liberty with the United States Army during the Korean War;
and
WHEREAS,
while her husband was serving in Korea, Mrs. Stonecypher went to work for
Western Electric in Atlanta, where she remained for 16 years; and
WHEREAS,
she is the proud mother of Susan Jan Stonecypher, who was born on January 5,
1956, in Atlanta, Georgia, and who married Army Captain and future Senator John
Douglas in 1987; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Stonecypher and her husband resided in DeKalb County for 26 years until
their move to Covington in 1997; and
WHEREAS,
she gives inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she has
demonstrated to her family and friends is admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example she has made
of her life, she makes this world a better place in which to live.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the life and legacy of Mrs. Betty Herron
Stonecypher.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Betty Herron Stonecypher.
