A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. Luke Isaiah Barnett; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. Luke Isaiah Barnett; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett was born on January 31, 1915, in Clarke County, Georgia, a beloved son of the late Odie and Hattie Jones Barnett; and

WHEREAS, he attended Union Baptist Institute and joined the C.C.C. Camp in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in 1933; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Barnett joined Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in 1920 at the age of 14 and remained a faithful member throughout his life, becoming a deacon in 1944; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett was united in love and marriage to the late Roberta Virginia Glenn Barnett on December 6, 1936, and was blessed with three remarkable children, Louis Hinton Barnett, Cordelia Delores Barnett, and Tyrone McCoil Barnett; and six wonderful grandchildren, Anthony, Michael, Derrick, Fred, Craig, and Sylvia; and

WHEREAS, he worked numerous jobs over the years to support his loving family, serving as a barber, school bus driver, service station operator, wood business owner, and landscaper; and

WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Barnett will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Luke Isaiah Barnett and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Luke Isaiah Barnett.
