HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the legislative reference bureau to conduct a safety study on the lanai airport base yard.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, an interim baseyard at the Lanai Airport is being rented and used by personnel for work purposes; and

 

     WHEREAS, the current baseyard facility has limited resources for use by employees and a move to a permanent facility can provide for more room for additional resources; and

 

     WHEREAS, a ten-acre parcel of land, conveyed to the State by Dole Company when it reclassified certain lands on Lanai for the development of Manele Golf Course, abuts the airport property along Kaumalapau Highway on Lanai and is available for state agencies to use; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Highways Division of the Department of Transportation, in collaboration with the Department of Land and Natural Resources, is working to acquire an additional two acre parcel adjacent to the Lanai Airport for the purpose of constructing a permanent baseyard for Lanai crewmembers; and

 

     WHEREAS, an environmental study and safety assessment of these properties adjacent to Lanai Airport will help in the process of developing the area for use; and

 

     WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of stakeholders to establish a permanent baseyard facility adjacent to the Lanai airport that is environmentally and structurally safe for employees to use; now, therefore,

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, the Senate concurring, that the Department of Transportation is requested to conduct a safety study on the Lanai airport base yard; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in conducting its study, the Department of Transportation shall survey the area to identify specific improvements necessary to ensure the area is environmentally and structurally safe for employees; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Transportation.
