HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 

 

EXPRESSING ALOHA AND SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF FRANCE.

 


 


     WHEREAS, on January 7, 2015, the city of Paris experienced the deadliest terrorist attack in the history of France; and

 

WHEREAS, the violence perpetrated against employees and journalists of the Charlie Hebdo magazine was unconscionable and universally condemned by most nations; and

 

WHEREAS, since its founding in 1970, Charlie Hebdo has exercised its right to the freedom of the press and speech without abstaining from controversy; and

 

WHEREAS, the United States has been a long-standing partner of France with a very close relationship between our peoples and country dating as far back as the American Revolution; and

 

WHEREAS, from 1775-1783 during the War of Independence, France fought alongside the United States of America and was an essential contributor to securing our independence; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2015, the Senate concurring, that this body expresses its sympathy, aloha, and condolences for the tragic loss of life on January 7, 2015 in the terrorist attack on Paris that has impacted the lives of so many in France and has reverberated around the world; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this body honors the unyielding spirit and bravery of the employees of the Charlie Hebdo magazine and that they will be long remembered by freedom-loving people in Hawaii and throughout the world; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the people of Hawaii stand with you and encourage you to persevere as a strong, unshakeable nation and people that you are; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the President of the French Republic, the President of the Senate of the Parliament of France, the President of the National Assembly of the Parliament of France, the Mayor of Paris, the City Council of Paris, the President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the Governor of the State of Hawaii, the President of the Hawaii State Senate and the Speaker of the Hawaii House of Representatives.
