HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

RECOGNIZING THE ISSUE OF ILLEGAL DUMPING WITHIN THE WAIPAHU COMMUNITY AND URGING THE STATE, CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU, AND MILITARY TO WORK TOGETHER TO ADDRESS THIS CONCERN.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the act of illegal dumping poses significant, environmental risks to the State's communities; and

 

     WHEREAS, illegal dumping in Waipahu threatens public health and safety by contaminating soil, water sources, and roads; and

 

     WHEREAS, illegal dumping has led to a hazardous environment that affects Waipahu's natural habitat and residents in the surrounding area; and

 

     WHEREAS, illegal dumping has resulted in diminished pride for cleanliness throughout the Waipahu community; and

 

     WHEREAS, bike paths in Waipahu and the surrounding areas are particularly affected by acts of illegal dumping; and

 

     WHEREAS, neighboring residents may not fully acknowledge the same values to care for the Waipahu community, which is creating an unhealthy environment for future generations; and

 

     WHEREAS, urgent action is necessary to mitigate health risks, protect the environment, and ensure the well—being of Waipahu residents and visitors; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2024, the Senate concurring, that this body recognizes the issue of illegal dumping within the Waipahu community; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this body urges the State, City and County of Honolulu, and military to work together to address this concern; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this measure is intended to bring awareness to the need for change to man-made, polluted areas within Waipahu; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Commander of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Governor, Director of Transportation, Director of Health, Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, and Director of the Department of Facility Maintenance of the City and County of Honolulu.
