HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

RECOGNIZING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE OUTDOOR CIRCLE IN HAWAII.

 

 

 


WHEREAS, the people of the State of Hawaii are proud to recognize those community-minded organizations and individuals who faithfully serve the community by their efforts to educate, restore, and beautify our state; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1912, THE OUTDOOR CIRCLE was established to protect and enhance the special beauty of our state and prevent activities that damage or destroy the visual environment and has many branches throughout Hawaii that strive to improve their local communities; and

 

WHEREAS, among the many activities to support its mission to keep Hawaii clean, green, and beautiful, THE OUTDOOR CIRCLE promotes and sponsors community beautification by planting and protecting trees, preserving open spaces and planes, providing environmental education to children, advocating to have utility wires placed under ground, and working to eliminate illegal and inappropriate signs; and

 

WHEREAS, THE OUTDOOR Circle's pioneer members actively worked to plant some of the largest and most recognizable trees on Oahu, and sought an end to the proliferation of billboards throughout the islands; and

 

WHEREAS, through its advocacy role in the community, THE OUTDOOR CIRCLE has positively impacted the quality of life for our residents and the quality of the Hawaii experience for millions of visitors to our state; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2012, that this body hereby commends and applauds THE OUTDOOR CIRCLE on its 100th Anniversary for working to keep Hawaii clean, green, and beautiful by preserving, protecting, and enhancing our environment for future generations, and extends its warmest aloha and best wishes for success in all future endeavors.
