A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO HALEAKALĀ NATIONAL PARK.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 249, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§249- Special license plates for Haleakala National Park authorized. (a) Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, any owner of a passenger motor vehicle, who is a resident of the State, upon application, may be issued a Haleakala National Park special license plate by the director for the owner's passenger motor vehicle to observe the importance of the Haleakala National Park in Hawaii.
(b) The Haleakala National Park special license plate shall:
(1) Contain words or an image that indicates the plates are issued to recognize the Haleakala National Park;
(2) Be similar in shape, size, and color to the regulation passenger motor vehicle number plate prescribed by law; and
(3) Be securely fastened to the passenger motor vehicle in lieu of the regulation number plate.
(c) In addition to any other fee authorized by law, for each Haleakala National Park special license plate issued, the applicant shall pay the cost of the plates plus administrative costs of furnishing the Haleakala National Park special license plate."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
