TWENTY-EIGHTH LEGISLATURE, 2015
STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to bicycle and moped revenue enhancement.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 

     SECTION 1.  Bicycle and moped owners are required to pay a one-time, permanent registration fee.  This fee is deposited into the bikeway fund and used in accordance with section 249-17.5, Hawaii Revised Statutes.

     The purpose of this Act is to increase the bicycle and moped registration fee to generate more revenue to improve bikeways statewide.

     SECTION 2.  Section 249-14, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:

     "(a)  Bicycles having two tandem wheels that are twenty inches or more in diameter and all mopeds [are required to] shall be registered [and].  Bicycles shall be subject to a permanent registration fee of [$15,] $25, and mopeds shall be subject to a permanent registration fee of $50, to be paid by the owners thereof to the director of finance."

     SECTION 3.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
