A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO AQUACULTURE.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2023-2024 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2024-2025 for the establishment of the aquaculture disease diagnostic laboratory within the veterinary laboratory of the department of agriculture's division of animal industry, including procuring staff, equipment, and supplies.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of agriculture for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2023-2024 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2024-2025 for the establishment of one full-time (1.0 FTE) aquaculture veterinarian position within the aquaculture and livestock support services branch of the department of agriculture's division of animal industry.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of agriculture for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 4. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $500,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2023-2024 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2024-2025 for the establishment of two full-time (2.0 FTE) Microbiologist III (SR-20) positions within the aquaculture and livestock support services branch of the department of agriculture's division of animal industry.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of agriculture for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 5. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2023.
