Code

2020,
is
amended
to
read
as
follows:

Writing,
sending,
or
viewing
an
electronic
message
while

driving
violations.

For
violations
under
section
321.276
that
occur
within
a

school
district
as
defined
in
section
321.1,
subsection
70,
the

scheduled
fine
is
sixty
dollars.

(2)
For
all
other
violations
under
section
321.276
,
the

scheduled
fine
is
thirty
dollars.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

Under
current
law,
a
person
who
writes,
sends,
or
views

an
electronic
message
while
driving
in
violation
of
Code
14
section
321.276
is
subject
to
a
scheduled
fine
of
$30.
This
15
bill
provides
that
a
person
who
writes,
sends,
or
views
an
16
electronic
message
while
driving
in
violation
of
Code
section
17
321.276
within
a
school
district
is
subject
to
a
scheduled
fine
18
of
$60.
“School
district”
is
defined
in
Code
section
321.1(70)
19
as
the
territory
contiguous
to
and
including
a
highway
for
a
20
distance
of
200
feet
in
either
direction
from
a
schoolhouse
21
in
a
city.
Under
Code
section
321.285,
the
speed
limit
in
a
22
school
district
is
25
miles
per
hour,
and
a
school
district
23
must
be
marked
by
distinctive
signs.
