H.F. 616 Section 1. Section 279.21, subsection 1, Code 2019, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 1. The board of directors of a school district may employ 3 principals , under the provisions of section 279.23 . A 4 principal shall hold a current valid principal’s certificate 5 administrator license and hold a principal endorsement . A 6 principal employed in an attendance center shall also hold 7 a valid standard teaching license. Notwithstanding the 8 provisions of section 279.23 , after serving at least nine 9 months, a principal may be employed for a term of not to exceed 10 two years. For purposes of this subsection, “attendance center” 11 means a school district building that contains classrooms used 12 for instructional purposes for elementary, middle, or secondary 13 school students. 14 EXPLANATION 15 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 16 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 17 This bill requires a school district principal, associate 18 principal, or assistant principal who is employed in a school 19 district attendance center to hold a valid standard teaching 20 license. 21 The bill updates a reference to a principal’s certificate. 22 -1- LSB 2522YH (5) 88 kh/jh 1/ 1
