Section 321.285, subsection 5, paragraph a, Code 1 2 2017, is amended to read as follows: 1 3 a. Notwithstanding any other speed restrictions, the speed 1 4 limit for all vehicular traffic on fully controlled=access, 1 5 divided, multilaned highways is sixty=five miles per hour. 1 6 However, the speed limit for all vehicular traffic on highways 1 7 that are part of the interstate road system, as defined in 1 8 section 306.3, isseventyseventy=five miles per hour. The 1 9 department may establish a speed limit of sixty=five miles per 1 10 hour on certain divided, multilaned highways not otherwise 1 11 described in this paragraph. 1 12 EXPLANATION 1 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 1 14 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. 1 15 Current law provides that the speed limit on highways that 1 16 are part of the interstate road system is 70 miles per hour. 1 17 This bill increases the speed limit on highways that are part 1 18 of the interstate road system to 75 miles per hour.
