Bill Title: Declares February of 2024 as Turner Syndrome Awareness Month. Urges increased funding for Turner Syndrome research and support. Urges health care professionals, public schools, educators, and the public to become more familiar with Turner Syndrome in order to promote early diagnosis, support those living with Turner Syndrome, and raise support for organizations dedicated to improving the lives of people with Turner Syndrome.

HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Turner Syndrome is a rare and non-inheritable
3chromosomal condition that occurs when the secondary X
4chromosome is partially or completely missing for those born
5female; and
6 WHEREAS, More than 98% of fetuses with Turner Syndrome
7will die before birth, resulting in about 10% percent of all
8first trimester miscarriages; and
9 WHEREAS, Turner Syndrome affects approximately one in
102,000 female live births worldwide; and
11 WHEREAS, Three in 10 individuals diagnosed with Turner
12Syndrome have Mosaic Turner Syndrome, for which the number of
13X chromosomes can vary; and
14 WHEREAS, There are over 85,000 people living with Turner
15Syndrome in the United States, and more than 30% of
16individuals born with Turner Syndrome are not diagnosed until
17they are 15 years old, with only 3.5% receiving adequate care;
18and
19 WHEREAS, Those living with Turner Syndrome often face
20lifelong cognitive, emotional, physical, and psychological

1challenges that can be better mitigated with early diagnosis
2and treatment; therefore, be it
3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we declare February of 2024 as Turner Syndrome Awareness Month
6in the State of Illinois; and be it further
7 RESOLVED, That we urge increased funding for Turner
8Syndrome research and support; and be it further
