| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Across the United States, National Crochet Month | ||||||
| 3 | is celebrated every year; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, It is unclear how crocheting traveled to the | ||||||
| 5 | Americas, but the first documented instances of such knitting | ||||||
| 6 | come from the Guiana Indians tribe and settlements; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, As far as appreciation of crochet is concerned, | ||||||
| 8 | the Crochet Guild of America (C.G.O.A.) was formed in the | ||||||
| 9 | United States in 1995, and March has been recognized as | ||||||
| 10 | National Crochet Month since 2005; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Some people crochet just for fun, and some make | ||||||
| 12 | it their source of income; crocheting is a healthy activity | ||||||
| 13 | that relieves stress and anxiety; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Although many people believe crocheting is a | ||||||
| 15 | women's hobby, a number of men crochet, including Snoop Dogg, | ||||||
| 16 | Ryan Reynolds, Rosey Grier, Christopher Walken, Donald Glover, | ||||||
| 17 | and Gold Medalist Tom Daley; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Representative Diane Blair-Sherlock's district | ||||||
| 19 | office has established a co-ed knitting and crochet group | ||||||
| 20 | called Unraveled that meets three times a month to crochet | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | scarves, hats, and mittens for those in need; together, the | ||||||
| 2 | group has donated over 600 handmade items to Dupage Pads, the | ||||||
| 3 | Outreach House, the Illinois Community for Displaced | ||||||
| 4 | Immigrants, the Islamic Circle of North America, and the | ||||||
| 5 | Dupage Health Coalition; the evening Unraveled event became so | ||||||
| 6 | popular that a daytime Unraveled group was added for those who | ||||||
| 7 | preferred to come during the daylight hours; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 9 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 10 | we declare March of 2024 as Crochet Month in the State of | ||||||
| 11 | Illinois; and be it further
