Bill Title: Declares April 28, 2024 as Workers Memorial Day. Encourages all citizens to recognize and honor all workers killed, injured, and disabled on the job, thank them for their service, offer sympathy to their families and loved ones, and work to provide today's workers with safe workplaces.

HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, On December 28, 1970, President Richard Nixon
3signed into law the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA),
4which went into effect on April 28, 1971; and
5 WHEREAS, In Illinois, 177 people were killed due to fatal
6work injuries in 2022 according to the most recent report from
7the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics; and
8 WHEREAS, All employers, private and public, should be
9dedicated to improving workplace safety, seeking stronger
10health standard enforcement, and treating workers with dignity
11as constant improvements in worker safety are pursued; and
12 WHEREAS, Since 1989, workers and local government leaders
13have gathered on April 28th to commemorate Workers Memorial
14Day in honor of those who have lost their lives working to
15provide a good standard of living for their families and
16communities; and
17 WHEREAS, Americans can honor our workers by observing
18Workers Memorial Day, remembering those victims of workplace
19injuries and workplace-related disease, and rededicating
20ourselves to improving safety and health in every American
21workplace; therefore, be it

2HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we declare April 28, 2024 as Workers Memorial Day in the State
