Bill Title: Amends the Public Higher Education Act. Provides that each public institution of higher education shall pay on behalf of a refugee or reimburse a refugee for payment of any transcript evaluation fees that are required by the public institution of higher education to be paid during the admission process. Effective immediately.

SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
110 ILCS 167/15 new

Amends the Public Higher Education Act. Provides that each public institution of higher education shall pay on behalf of a refugee or reimburse a refugee for payment of any transcript evaluation fees that are required by the public institution of higher education to be paid during the admission process. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning education.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Public Higher Education Act is amended by
5adding Section 15 as follows:
6 (110 ILCS 167/15 new)
7 Sec. 15. Transcript evaluation fee waivers.
8 (a) In this Section, "refugee" means a person who has
9entered the United States on a refugee status from Iraq or
10Afghanistan.
11 (b) Beginning January 1, 2025, each public institution of
12higher education shall pay on behalf of a refugee or reimburse
13a refugee for payment of any transcript evaluation fees that
14are required by the public institution of higher education to
15be paid during the admission process.
