SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of David Alan Marks of Deerfield, who
4passed away on April 4, 2023; and
5 WHEREAS, David Marks was the project architect for Water
6Tower Place, and he designed many other notable buildings
7throughout the Chicago area and the world as a principal at
8Loebl Schlossman and Hackl; and
9 WHEREAS, David Marks used his many talents to help others
10through his work with Shriners Children's Hospital, the
11Salvation Army, and the Deerfield Plan Commission; he also
12designed the chapel at Makom Solel Lakeside; and
13 WHEREAS, David Marks was a talented painter, specializing
14in figurative work, and an avid tennis player at Bannockburn
15Club and Birchwood Club for many years; and
16 WHEREAS, David Marks loved his family with all his heart,
17and he was always there for his children and grandchildren; he
18adored his wife, Lois, and was the most devoted, patient, and
19loving husband; and
20 WHEREAS, David Marks was preceded in death by his wife and

1best friend of 60 years, Lois (Stretch) Marks, and his
2granddaughter, Verity Marks-Kandel; and
3 WHEREAS, David Marks is survived by his daughters, Susan
4Mason (Larry), Ellen Marks (Alex Kandel), and Jami Jacobs
5(Michael); his grandchildren, Samantha Renton (James), Sarah
6Mason, Zoe Mason, Caleb Marks-Kandel, Ethan Jacobs, Ben
7Jacobs, and Hope Marks-Kandel; and his sister, Roberta (Gene)
8Douglis; therefore, be it
9 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11David Alan Marks and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of David Marks as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
