2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Don Robinson of Springfield, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on November 18, 2012; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Don Robinson was born to Frank and Naydine (nee | ||||||
6 | Mitchell) Robinson on January 25, 1932; he was a U.S. Army | ||||||
7 | veteran and served 2 tours of duty in the Korean War; he | ||||||
8 | attended Brown's Business School and the University of Illinois | ||||||
9 | Police Training Institute; he married Doris Woolery on June 5, | ||||||
10 | 1955; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Don Robinson worked as a Springfield Lake | ||||||
12 | Policeman and later as an officer and detective with the | ||||||
13 | Springfield Police Department; while serving in law | ||||||
14 | enforcement, he also worked as a car salesman, eventually | ||||||
15 | becoming co-owner of Railsplitter Lincoln-Mercury; in 1990, he | ||||||
16 | branched out on his own and opened Don Robinson's Auto Sales; | ||||||
17 | he eventually returned to his law enforcement roots, taking a | ||||||
18 | position as security guard at the Illinois Supreme Court | ||||||
19 | Building from 2000-2008; and

20 | WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Donnie", "Uncle Don", | ||||||
21 | "Papa", and "Grandpa Don", Don Robinson enjoyed giving back to | ||||||
22 | his community and served as a Foster Grandparent in the |

1 | Springfield Public Schools; and

2 | WHEREAS, Don Robinson was baptized at Union Baptist Church | ||||||
3 | and remained a member throughout his life; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Don Robinson was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
5 | his brother, Frank (Jackie) Robinson; and his sister, Delores | ||||||
6 | (Harold) Fristoe; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Don Robinson is survived by his wife, Doris | ||||||
8 | "Toots"; his children, Colleen "Bright Eyes" (Andre Hawks) | ||||||
9 | Robinson and Jacki "Puddin" Robinson-Ivy; his grandchildren, | ||||||
10 | Constance Robinson and Trevor Ivy; his brothers, Raymond | ||||||
11 | (Jane), Tony (Jean), and Darwin (Claudia); his sisters, Merrill | ||||||
12 | (Leroy) McDaniels and Gloria Hayes; his uncle, George; his | ||||||
13 | aunt, Rachel Jones; his nieces and nephews; his friend of 73 | ||||||
14 | years, Paul "Godfather" Harmon; and his friend of 45 years, | ||||||
15 | Virginia "VP" Palic; therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
18 | Don Robinson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | ||||||
19 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Don Robinson as an expression of our |
