| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of Gary V. Sandberg of Peoria, who passed | ||||||
| 4 | away on July 19, 2013; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg was born on March 21, 1948 in | ||||||
| 6 | Princeton; his parents were H. Albert and Dorothy Wilkins | ||||||
| 7 | Sandberg; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg earned his undergraduate degree in | ||||||
| 9 | architecture and construction engineering from Southern | ||||||
| 10 | Illinois University in 1968; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg first served the City of Peoria as | ||||||
| 12 | Director of the Inspections Department from 1978 to 1989; at | ||||||
| 13 | the time, he was the only architect in the nation to head an | ||||||
| 14 | inspections department; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg was first elected to the Peoria City | ||||||
| 16 | Council in 1989; he served the citizens of Peoria as City | ||||||
| 17 | Councilman for the Second District, and was serving as City | ||||||
| 18 | Councilman At-Large at the time of his passing; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg was a fan of the New York Yankees | ||||||
| 20 | and Formula One racing; he was an avid motorcyclist, having | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | completed the "Iron Butt" ride from the northern tip of Alaska | ||||||
| 2 | to the southern tip of Key West, Florida and ridden Route 66 | ||||||
| 3 | several times; he also enjoyed collecting British cars, driving | ||||||
| 4 | race cars, and Beamish Stout; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Gary Sandberg is survived by his children, Cari | ||||||
| 6 | Sandberg and Colt Sandberg; his grandchildren, Devin and Caera | ||||||
| 7 | Berry; his brother, James (Peg) Sandberg; his nieces, Elise | ||||||
| 8 | Bartman and Sara Kloepping; and his beloved Green-Wing Macaw, | ||||||
| 9 | Jelly Bean; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
| 12 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Gary V. Sandberg; and | ||||||
| 13 | be it further
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 15 | presented to the family of Gary Sandberg as an expression of | ||||||
| 16 | our sympathy.
