SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Janet Elizabeth (Priniski) Sikma of
4West Chicago, who passed away on November 19, 2022; and
5 WHEREAS, Janet Sikma was born to David and Patricia
6Priniski in Elgin in June 21, 1977; she received her
7bachelor's degree in Music Education from Augustana College in
81999; she earned her master's degree in Music Education from
9Northern Illinois University in 2014; and
10 WHEREAS, Janet Sikma began her teaching career in St.
11Louis; she spent the last 19 years as the orchestra director
12and mariachi teacher at West Chicago Elementary School
13District 33, where she was instrumental in developing the
14district's Music Department; and
15 WHEREAS, Janet Sikma's most significant accomplishment was
16building the Mariachi los Rayos de Leman Middle School
17ensemble, one of the only mariachi groups open to middle
18school students in the State, to meet the needs of her
19community; her group has made a significant cultural impact on
20the community and has even performed for Governor JB Pritzker
21at the State Capitol on Latino Unity Day; and

1 WHEREAS, Janet Sikma's passion and love for her students
2was evident, and she will be remembered for her dedication to
3them; and
4 WHEREAS, Janet Sikma is survived by her mother, Patricia
5Priniski; her husband of 23 years, James E. Sikma; her
6daughter, Lauren; her son, Eric; her sister, Carol (Priniski)
7Bramstedt; and her brother, Scott Priniski; therefore, be it
8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Janet Elizabeth (Priniski) Sikma and extend our sincere
11condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
12her; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Janet Sikma as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
