2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of David A. Holcomb of Milan, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on November 16, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, David Holcomb was born to Harry and Esther | ||||||
6 | (Formhals) Holcomb in Morris on January 8, 1936; he graduated | ||||||
7 | from Morris High School in 1954; he earned his Bachelor of Arts | ||||||
8 | and Master of Arts in Music Education from Illinois State | ||||||
9 | University; he served in the U.S. Army, playing baritone horn | ||||||
10 | in the 5th U.S. Army Band and in the U.S. Army Band in Germany | ||||||
11 | for several years; he married Gail Emerson in Morton in 1969; | ||||||
12 | and

13 | WHEREAS, David Holcomb taught music in the Rock Island | ||||||
14 | Public Schools for 34 years; he also served as the band | ||||||
15 | director of Ambrose Jazz for a time; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, David Holcomb was a well-known jazz pianist in | ||||||
17 | the Quad Cities, playing in numerous venues throughout the | ||||||
18 | area; he was known for his ability to entertain with both his | ||||||
19 | music and his wit; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, David Holcomb was preceded in death by his | ||||||
21 | parents and his siblings, Joel, Henrietta, Rachel, Ruth, and |

| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, David Holcomb is survived by his wife of 54 | ||||||
3 | years, Gail; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and | ||||||
4 | great-nephews; and his poodles, Billie and Oscar; therefore, | ||||||

6 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
7 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||

9 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
