SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Maureen Therese Barnes of
4Springfield, who passed away on January 20, 2024; and
5 WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes was born in Chicago to Mary
6Catherine (Barron) and David Mahoney on December 20, 1954; her
7family moved to Springfield at a young age, and she graduated
8from Springfield High School; she married Troy Barnes at
9Christ the King Church on September 6, 1974; and
10 WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes dedicated her professional life to
11serving others in the medical field; she enrolled in night
12school to get her nursing degree, and over the next three
13decades, she created a highly impactful and respected nursing
14career working in both private practice and surgery at
15Memorial Health Systems; she was known as "Mother Moe" and
16mentored many young nurses; and
17 WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes had a unique and special
18relationship with each of her grandchildren; one of her great
19joys was bringing her grandchildren to summer vacations on
20Lake Michigan; she felt that her times at Lake Michigan with
21family and friends were some of the best memories she had ever
22made; and

1 WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes and her husband enjoyed traveling
2around the country, and they looked forward to their winters
3in Florida with their fellow snowbirds; she also kept up with
4her sisterhood of nurses with cherished weekly and monthly
5dinners and lunches; and
6 WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes was preceded in death by her
7sister, Trish Milburn; and
8 WHEREAS, Maureen Barnes is survived by her husband of 49
9years, Troy Barnes; her children, Thomas (Stacy) Barnes, Sarah
10(David) Byun, and Brian (Whitney) Barnes; her brothers, David
11(Kathy) and Dennis (Cindy) Mahoney; her sister, Margaret
12"Peggy" Mahoney; her sister-in-law, Diann (Gary) Glenn; her
13grandchildren, Kylie, Owen, Arlo, Cassidy, August, Viona, and
14Ruth; numerous close cousins, nieces, and nephews; and the
15hundreds of friends she made such a huge part of her life;
16therefore, be it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Maureen Therese Barnes and extend our sincere condolences to
20her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
