Bill Title: Declares March 2024 as Red Cross Month and March 14, 2024 as Red Cross Giving Day in the State of Illinois. Urges everyone to join in the commitment to give to others. Encourages all citizens of Illinois to support the noble efforts of the Red Cross.

| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, In Illinois, the contributions of more than 3,500 | ||||||
| 3 | local Red Cross volunteers give hope to the most vulnerable in | ||||||
| 4 | their darkest hours; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The Red Cross provides emergency shelter, food, | ||||||
| 6 | and comfort for families devastated by local disasters and | ||||||
| 7 | responds to approximately 2,000 disasters annually throughout | ||||||
| 8 | Illinois, most of which are home fires; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The Red Cross donates blood for accident and burn | ||||||
| 10 | victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and | ||||||
| 11 | those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer, or sickle cell | ||||||
| 12 | disease and annually collects more than 150,000 units of blood | ||||||
| 13 | at 5,000 blood drives in Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, The Red Cross supports service members and | ||||||
| 15 | veterans, along with their families and caregivers, through | ||||||
| 16 | the unique challenges of military life, and local Red Cross | ||||||
| 17 | volunteers facilitate more than 9,000 emergency services for | ||||||
| 18 | the military annually; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, The Red Cross helps to save the lives of others | ||||||
| 20 | with first aid, CPR, and other skills, and annually, local Red | ||||||
| 21 | Cross volunteers train approximately 100,000 people in | ||||||

| 1 | lifesaving skills; therefore, be it

| 2 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
| 3 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare the month of | ||||||
| 4 | March 2024 as Red Cross Month and March 14, 2024 as Red Cross | ||||||
| 5 | Giving Day in the State of Illinois in honor of all who fulfill | ||||||
| 6 | Clara Barton's noble words, "You must never think of anything | ||||||
| 7 | except the need and how to meet it"; and be it further

| 8 | RESOLVED, That we urge everyone to join in the commitment | ||||||
| 9 | to give to others, and we encourage all citizens of Illinois to | ||||||
