SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Ruth M. Callahan, who passed away on
4March 13, 2024; and
5 WHEREAS, Ruth Callahan was born to Benton Steve and Martha
6London in Arkansas on April 13, 1940; she married Floyd
7Callahan Sr. in Arkansas in April 1959, and they had four
8children; and
9 WHEREAS, Ruth Callahan worked in the field of nursing for
10over 20 years; and
11 WHEREAS, Ruth Callahan committed to her faith at an early
12age, attending Allen Temple Missionary Baptist Church in
13Stuttgart, Arkansas as a child; she was later active at True
14Vine Baptist Church in Dixmoor, Illinois, where she served as
15president of the usher board for many years; and
16 WHEREAS, Ruth Callahan loved completing word search
17puzzles, and she was devoted to her family; and
18 WHEREAS, Ruth Callahan was preceded in death by her
19parents; her husband of 36 years, Floyd; her brothers, Benton
20London, Samuel London, and Nathaniel London; and her sisters,

1Leoria Releford and Rosie Mae Owens; and
2 WHEREAS, Ruth Callahan is survived by her children,
3Timothy Callahan Sr., Warren Callahan, Cassandra Edwards, and
4Floyd Callahan Jr.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren;
5and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends;
6therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Ruth M. Callahan and extend our sincere condolences to her
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
