SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gerald A. "Jerry" Jones of Springfield,
4who passed away on May 30, 2020; and
5 WHEREAS, Jerry Jones was born in Decatur to Loy A. and
6Patricia A. (Merritt) Jones on December 30, 1948; he was a
7state wrestler in high school; he married Roberta Lee Jones on
8May 12, 1970; he served in the U.S. Air Force as a Special
9Operations Combat Controller during the Vietnam War Era, and he
10attained the rank of Sergeant; and
11 WHEREAS, Jerry Jones had various careers: he worked in
12technology, where he spent time in Silicon Valley, California,
13in manufacturing, and most recently in healthcare; and
14 WHEREAS, Jerry Jones enjoyed the outdoors and loved hiking
15and swimming in rivers and oceans especially; he also enjoyed
16chocolate, Blues music, action movies, and watching football;
17he was known as an animal lover, being particularly fond of his
18golden retrievers; and
19 WHEREAS, Jerry Jones was preceded in death by his wife,
20Roberta; his parents; and his brother, Jim; and

1 WHEREAS, Jerry Jones is survived by his children, Ed Jones
2and Deborah (husband, Jeff Krick) Jones; and his sister, Nancy
3(Mike) O'Brien; therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Gerald A. "Jerry" Jones and extend our sincere condolences to
7his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
8further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Jerry Jones as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
