Bill Title: County jails. Provides that the per diem from the department of correction for the cost of incarcerating a Level 6 felon is $55 per day. Provides that a county must appropriate at least $25 of each $55 per diem to the county sheriff which shall be used by the sheriff only for the purposes of law enforcement or county jail operations. Provides that upon a request from the sheriff, the commissioner may agree to accept custody of a person convicted of a Level 6 felony: (1) if placement in the county jail represents a substantial threat to the safety of others; (2) the inmate committed a new criminal offense while incarcerated in the county jail; or (3) for other good cause shown.
