SENATE RESOLUTION

     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating the Mater Dei High School girls basketball team on winning the State Championship.
        
    Whereas, The Mater Dei Class 2A girls basketball team added another accomplishment to its growing list of first-time achievements. The No. 1 ranked team clinched their first state title in overtime, after a fiercely close match in regulation;

    Whereas, The Mater Dei team finished the season at 27-1 and won 20 consecutive games to finish out the year. This season, the Wildcats won their first regional, semi-state and state championship, ultimately ending the season with an impressive 56-52 overtime win over the reigning state champions;

    Whereas, In a closely contested game with 15 ties and lead changes, shining overtime performances by Maura Muensterman and Tori Schickel ushered the team to victory. Schickel managed to score three points in early overtime, along with four points from Muensterman in the final seconds. Muensterman sank a 12-foot jump shot that pushed the team ahead 54-52, and then executed two more free throws after a

technical foul was called against the opposition; and

    Whereas, The girls basketball team finished the season with an impressive win. Their hard work and determination this year is commendable, and their teamwork and talent are noteworthy. The girls have made a name for their school and their team, and are sincerely congratulated on their successful year: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate congratulates the Mater Dei girls basketball team on their 2012 State Championship victory.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mater Dei High School Principal, Chris Tanner, and Coach Steve Goans.
