HOUSE BILL No. 5091

December 1, 2015, Introduced by Reps. Canfield, Bizon, Vaupel, Callton, Inman, Kelly, Potvin, Lauwers, Leutheuser, LaFontaine, Jenkins and McCready and referred to the Committee on Health Policy.

 

     A bill to amend 1956 PA 218, entitled

 

"The insurance code of 1956,"

 

(MCL 500.100 to 500.8302) by adding section 2212d.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 2212d. An insurer that delivers, issues for delivery, or

 

renews in this state an expense-incurred hospital, medical, or

 

surgical policy or certificate issued under chapter 34 or 36 or a

 

health maintenance organization that issues a health maintenance

 

contract under chapter 35 shall not require as a condition

 

precedent to the payment or reimbursement of a claim under the

 

policy, certificate, or contract that an allopathic or osteopathic

 

physician maintain a national or regional certification not


otherwise specifically required for licensure under article 15 of

 

the public health code, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333.16101 to 333.18838.
