     A bill to amend 2017 PA 202, entitled

 

"Protecting local government retirement and benefits act,"

 

(MCL 38.2801 to 38.2812) by adding section 4a.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 4a. If a local unit of government provides a retirement

 

system for its officers, the local unit of government shall not

 

provide retirement pension benefits through a defined benefit

 

retirement system or other defined benefit plan to an official

 

first elected or appointed to an elective office of the local unit

 

of government after January 1, 2019 if the official is new to the

 

defined benefit retirement system or defined benefit plan.
