1.2relating to education finance; appropriating money for early childhood literacy
1.3programs;amending Laws 2013, chapter 116, article 3, section 37, subdivision 15.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. Laws 2013, chapter 116, article 3, section 37, subdivision 15, is amended to
1.6read:
1.7 Subd. 15. Early childhood literacy programs. For early childhood literacy
1.8programs under Minnesota Statutes, section119A.50, subdivision 3 :
1.12Up to $4,125,000 each in the first year and $6,125,000 in the second year is for
1.13leveraging federal and private funding to support AmeriCorps members serving in the
1.14Minnesota Reading Corps program established by ServeMinnesota, including costs
1.15associated with the training and teaching of early literacy skills to children age three to
1.16grade 3 and the evaluation of the impact of the program under Minnesota Statutes, sections
1.17124D.38, subdivision 2
, and
124D.42, subdivision 6 . Up to $2,000,000 in fiscal year
1.182015 must be used to support priority and focus schools as defined by the Department
1.19of Education and to expand kindergarten programming.
1.20Any balance in the first year does not cancel but is available in the second year.
