1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Lee Ann Seppala on the occasion of her retirement.
1.3WHEREAS, those who dedicate their careers to pursuing the highest standards of
1.4excellence in early childhood education are deserving of special legislative recognition; and
1.5WHEREAS, Lee Ann Seppala taught second grade at Woodbury Elementary School from
1.61969 to 1975, and after staying at home to raise her own three daughters, she began teaching
1.7Early Childhood and Family Education (ECFE) in 1985; and
1.8WHEREAS, while teaching ECFE, Lee Ann went back to school to earn her Early
1.9Childhood License at Concordia College, and from 2003 to 2010 she held the position of ECFE
1.10Coordinator for Independent School District 622; and
1.11WHEREAS, during her tenure as Coordinator, Lee Ann worked with the union to help
1.12early childhood teachers receive teacher-level contracts, managed all areas of District 622's ECFE
1.13program, greatly expanded programming, initiated curricular changes, developed partnerships to
1.14enhance services for parents and children, developed new promotional/marketing strategies, and
1.15worked with local legislators to secure support for ECFE and School Readiness funding; and
1.16WHEREAS, on June 20, 2010, Lee Ann Seppala retired, and she will be greatly missed by
1.17the entire community; NOW, THEREFORE,
1.18BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it thanks and commends
1.19Lee Ann Seppala for her tireless devotion to early childhood education, and extends best wishes
1.20to her for her retirement.
1.21BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.22enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by his signature and that of the Chair of the
1.23Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Lee Ann Seppala.
