Summary

An Act To Amend Section 63-1-73, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Prohibit The Use Of Wireless Telephones Or Electronic Communication Devices To Engage In Wireless Interactive Communication By A Person Operating A Motor Vehicle; To Provide Exemptions From Compliance With The Requirements Of This Act; To Provide That From July 1, 2012, Through December 31, 2013, A Conviction Under This Act Must Occur As A Secondary Offense And Shall Not Be Entered On The Driving Record Of The Convicted Person; To Provide That From And After January 1, 2014, A Conviction Under This Act May Occur As A Primary Offense And Shall Be Entered On The Driving Record Of The Convicted Person; To Provide That A Law Enforcement Officer May Not Seize Or Examine The Wireless Telephone Or Electronic Communication Device Of A Person For The Purpose Of Determining A Violation Of Section 63-1-73; To Amend Section 63-1-216, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Provide That A Person Shall Be Disqualified From Driving A Commercial Motor Vehicle For Certain Amounts Of Time For Violations Under Section 63-1-73; And For Related Purposes.
