A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE COMMERCIAL AIRPORTS AND GENERAL AVIATION AIRPORTS IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI FOR THEIR IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STATE'S INTERMODAL TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGNATING THE MONTH OF MAY AS AVIATION MONTH IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, there are eight commercial airports and 69 general aviation airports in the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, the airports in Mississippi provide outstanding aviation facilities which are an integral part of the state's intermodal transportation system; and

     WHEREAS, these airports are used daily to transport passengers and cargo into the state and from the state throughout the world; and

     WHEREAS, the airports in Mississippi generate hundreds of millions of dollars in direct and indirect economic benefits within the state, and play an essential role in the state's economic development and growth; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize those entities that make important contributions to the State of Mississippi and its citizens by improving the economic development and growth of the state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the commercial airports and general aviation airports in the State of Mississippi and the aviation industry for their important roles in the state's intermodal transportation system and economic development, and designate the month of May 2011, and every May thereafter as Aviation Month in the State of Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Airports Association and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
