A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ST. STANISLAUS (BAY ST. LOUIS) ROCK-A-CHAWS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2010-2011 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the St. Stanislaus (Bay St. Louis) Rock-A-Chaws Boys Basketball Team finished the 2010-2011 season with an outstanding record of 34-2 and demonstrated athletic fortitude and prowess in its battle on the hard court for ultimate bragging rights as winners of the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the Rock-A-Chaws' 54-38 victory over neighboring rival, Pass Christian, placed the team into the record books for history and present stardom as the victors of the school's first state title after having made its second consecutive appearance at the "Big House," rising triumphantly as the 2010-2011 Class 4A State Champions; and

     WHEREAS, throughout their season of play, the Rock-A-Chaws have faced off with some of the state's best contenders on the hard court, but persevered to make their presence and talent known by capturing the Division 8-4A Championship Title and the 4A South State Championship Title on their redemptive road to basketball glory; and

     WHEREAS, the Rock-A-Chaws, who were a united front as they set out to accomplish the goal established early in the season to bestow the great honor and pride due their alma mater and coach, and not settling for anything less than perfection, delivered as avowed and staked their claim in individual honors as well, which are a testament of the team's athletic super-status, including:  the selection of Daniel Grieves and Johnny Zuppardo to the Mississippi All-Star Team; and the naming of Johnny Zuppardo as the title game's Most Valuable Player; and

     WHEREAS, the Rock-A-Chaws Championship Roster is as follows:  Will Nations, Malcolm Reid, Davon Hayes, Ramone Tate, Bret Reinhart, Nick Vazquez, Robert Dolese, Jackson Grieves, Miles Burnett, Ryan Jordan, Will Reid, Heath Corr, Bennett Rimmer, Clint Vancourt, Daniel Grieves, Johnny Zuppardo, Gatlin Fay and Riley Baggett; and

     WHEREAS, the Rock-A-Chaws have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Jay Ladner, who has broadened the Rock-A-Chaws' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, after 20 years, Coach Ladner continues to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in his ability to produce high caliber players and plays, by the team's successful season and for winning its first state championship title, the pinnacle of high school athletics; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the St. Stanislaus (Bay St. Louis) Rock-A-Chaws Boys Basketball Team and Head Coach Jay Ladner for their outstanding 2010-2011 season, for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A State Championship, the first in school history, and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.


     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to St. Stanislaus (Bay St. Louis), Head Coach Jay Ladner and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
