A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MS. TAYLOR RENEE HARRIS UPON BEING SELECTED AS A ROYAL COURT DEBUTANTE FOR THE ORIGINAL ILLINOIS CLUB; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     WHEREAS, Ms. Taylor Renee Harris is being honored for her esteemed selection as a royal court debutante for the Original Illinois Club; and

     WHEREAS, Taylor is the lovely, enchanting and versatile daughter of Mr. Andrew Ponder Harris and Ms. Crishelle McConduit Hoffman, and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mack Harris of Gulfport, Mississippi, and of the late Mr. Darrell McConduit and Mrs. Denise Walter McConduit of New Orleans, Louisiana; and

     WHEREAS, Taylor was dedicated to the Lord at a young age, being baptized and receiving her first communion at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in New Orleans, Louisiana, and since that time, she has strived to maintain Christian ideals and has participated in many volunteer projects for the church, including, Toys for Tots, sweater and coat drives and food drives for the homeless; and

     WHEREAS, in addition, Taylor has begun work to start a foundation to help children with congenital scoliosis, for which she has true empathy regarding the difficulties faced by such children, because as a young girl, she had undergone surgery to repair that condition, which speaks volumes of her ability to take a difficult situation and use it for the betterment of others; and

     WHEREAS, due to hurricane Katrina, Taylor was forced to evacuate from New Orleans, to Houston, Texas, and although she found the events surrounding Katrina to be trying, she has continued to prosper and find the good in life's trials; and

     WHEREAS, Taylor is currently enrolled in Mayde Creek High School where she is an honor student and participates in the school's distinguished graduation plan, taking courses for early college credit such as psychology, sociology and college-level algebra; and 

     WHEREAS, due to her many accomplishments, Taylor has also been awarded with the Distinguished Graduate award at her school - one of many accolades she has earned; and

     WHEREAS, Taylor, in addition to her academic achievements, is the ultimate student leader as evidenced by her membership in the Key Club, which is a community service and leadership development organization; and 

     WHEREAS, Taylor is also the treasurer of her school's student council and a member of the photography club, and she has also been a cheerleader, played basketball and was on her school's track and field team; and

     WHEREAS, further, Taylor, a multi-talented and gifted young lady, is a member of her school's dance team, and due to her vast contributions and training in various disciplines of dance, her team won the second place award in the prestigious Texas Showcase Dance Competition; and 

     WHEREAS, Taylor, who is very compassionate towards her fellow man, has a desire to address a problem in this country related to inadequate access to mental healthcare, and therefore, intends to follow her interest in studying human behavior and cognitive functioning by pursuing a doctorate degree in psychology with the impressive goal of becoming a clinical psychologist; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature of the State of Mississippi to pay tribute to an outstanding young lady such as Taylor Renee Harris, whose demonstration of excellence brings great honor and serves as a role model for the youth of today's society:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That the Legislature of the State of Mississippi does hereby congratulate Ms. Taylor Renee Harris upon being selected as a royal court debutante for the Original Illinois Club, as well as for her community service and academic achievements, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Taylor Harris and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
