House Concurrent Resolution 40

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE HONORABLE JIM POUNDS ON HIS REMARKABLE PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE.

     WHEREAS, the Honorable Jim Pounds has devoted his life to serving and improving the State of Mississippi through his professional contributions as well as his incredible community leadership and public service; and

     WHEREAS, as a graduate of both Mississippi State University and Mississippi College School of Law, Judge Pounds served 18 years as Assistant District Attorney for Alcorn, Prentiss and Tishomingo Counties, served two terms as President of the Mississippi Prosecutors Association both in 1994 and 1995 and served as a senior attorney at the Mississippi State Tax Commission until 1998; and

     WHEREAS, a man of incredible stature and character, and revered for his impeccable expertise and dedicated public service, Judge Pounds' abilities and talent were immediately recognized by his community, and he was elected as Circuit Court Judge in 2006; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Pounds was further selected by the Booneville Junior Auxiliary as Prentiss County's 2003 Outstanding Citizen of the Year, and he served as President of the Booneville Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), served as President of the Booneville Booster Club and created the drug court for the First Circuit Court District in 2008; and

     WHEREAS, with his tremendous care and concern for the future of his community and state, Judge Pounds coached Little League Baseball for over 20 years, served as Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 37 in Booneville, and served as Coordinator for the building of Kids Town in Booneville, one of the largest community built playgrounds in the State of Mississippi and further served as Co-Coordinator for the playground built at the Corinth City Park; and

     WHEREAS, Judge Pounds additionally served on the Board of Directors for Survival, Inc. in 2006, served on the Board of Directors for the Prentiss County Habitat for Humanity and served on the Board of Directors for the Booneville Renasant Bank from 2004 to 2006; and

     WHEREAS, diligently serving the citizens of his community,   and with his strong work ethic and continued perseverance, Judge Pounds has been fueled by his desire to make the quality of life better for his community and the entire citizenry of the Hospitality State; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the magnificent contributions and unparalleled community service that exceptional Mississippians such as Judge Jim Pounds, provide to the citizens of this great Magnolia State:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend Judge Jim Pounds upon his outstanding community service and impressive professional accomplishments and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Judge Jim Pounds and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
