A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMEMORATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MR. DOUGLAS F. HARRINGTON, SR., AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and time to every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, the grand architect of the universe, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny, has summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Mr. Douglas F. Harrington, Sr., to eternal rest, as he has made life's final transition from earthly travailing to heavenly reward, rendering great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi and the City of Jackson lost a wonderful friend, community leader and decorated veteran on Monday, February 10, 2014, with the passing of Mr. Douglas F. Harrington, Sr., who was born in McGehee, Arkansas, to the late Fletcher and Lucille Harrington in 1936; and

     WHEREAS, a graduate of Greenville High School and Ole Miss, Mr. Harrington, who received his Air Force Commission through the ROTC program at Ole Miss, and was a distinguished and decorated veteran who served in Korea and Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Harrington earned his master of education degree from Northern Colorado University and graduated from pilot training in May 1961, whereafter he flew fighter aircraft and received Command Pilot status in 1974; and

     WHEREAS, upon retirement from military service in 1980, Mr. Harrington moved to Jackson, Mississippi, and began a career with the State of Mississippi which spanned the course of 23 years until his retirement in 2003; and

     WHEREAS, a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, Mr. Harrington evidenced a great love and loyalty to the ministry, as displayed by melodic singing as a tenor soloist with the Sanctuary Choir, Reflections Choir and Sonrise Men's Ensemble, and was a devout member of the Chapel Sunday School Class; and

     WHEREAS, as fate would lend itself to building upon the blueprint divinely designed for the pattern of his life by the Great Deity, Mr. Harrington's love, chivalry and affection pierced the heart of Grace Walters Harrington, and the duo became bone of one another's bone and flesh of one another's flesh after exchanging the nuptials of holy matrimony and completed their family unit with the addition of two sons; and

     WHEREAS, though he has traversed the river of life to reunite with those who answered God's summons to life eternal and now beckon his arrival to the celestial shores of Heaven's grandeur, including his parents and eight siblings, the legacy of Mr. Harrington's memory will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of his beloved survivors:  devoted wife, Grace; sons, Douglas F. Harrington, Jr., and Lee W. Harrington; two beloved grandchildren, Zachary and Craig; and a host of other relatives and friends; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to acknowledge the selflessness and benevolence of such a humanitarian and patriot of an individual of esteemed caliber as Mr. Harrington:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commemorate the life and legacy of Mr. Douglas F. Harrington, Sr., and extend sincere and deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Harrington and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
