A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMENDING THE LIFE AND DISTINGUISHED LEGACY OF PUBLIC SERVICE OF SERGEANT KEVIN GALE STAUFFER, JR., OF THE TUPELO POLICE DEPARTMENT AND EXPRESSING THE DEEPEST AND MOST SOLEMN SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and time to every purpose under the heaven," and as such, the grand architect of the universe, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny, has summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Sergeant Kevin Gale Stauffer, Jr., to eternal rest, as he has made life's final transition from earthly travailing to heavenly reward, rendering great sorrow and loss to his family, colleagues and friends; and

     WHEREAS, the Tupelo Community lost a wonderful friend, community pillar and devoted peoples' servant on Monday, December 23, 2013, with the passing of Sergeant Stauffer, a hometown hero whose life's presence was summoned before the heavenly court while serving his community and state as a sworn officer of the law in the performance of his duties; and

     WHEREAS, born on June 21, 1975, to Kevin Gale Stauffer, Sr., and Deborah McAlilly Brangenberg, Sergeant Stauffer was an individual with an extended record in law enforcement, having begun his affiliation of serving the masses, protecting the freedoms of democracy and preserving the peace of all mankind in 2004 and 2005, when he enlisted in the United States Armed Forces and bravely served tours of duty in Iraq as a Sergeant in the Louisiana National Guard, 1088th Engineer Battalion; and

     WHEREAS, a former member of the Itawamba Community College Indians Football Team, Sergeant Stauffer worked with the Lee County Sheriff's Department prior to his tour of duty in Iraq, and upon completion of his national patriotic service, chose to settle in Tupelo, Mississippi, with his family where he became a member of the First United Methodist Church and joined the ranks of the Tupelo Police Department, where he continued to carry out the duties of protecting the lives, residences and businesses of Tupelo with tantamount fortitude and passion devoted to his military service; and

     WHEREAS, an altruistic public servant who took his role as a police officer to heart and a true advocate of education, Sergeant Stauffer's passion for learning led him to continue the advancement of his educational matriculation with the receipt of his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, immersing himself in the thorough investigation of crimes and victim's rights, Sergeant Stauffer was an intrepid officer with the heart of a warrior, the strength of a lion and a fiercely loyal and vigilant protector of his family and friends who brought great honor, integrity and prestige to the titles he bore as a soldier and police officer; and

     WHEREAS, the embodiment of an American hero and patriot, it was this heroism and chivalry that won the affection of his high school sweetheart, the former Beth Cabiness of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who would become his wife upon the exchange of nuptials of holy matrimony in April 2003; and

     WHEREAS, a native Louisianan and a loyal Mississippian tried and true, Sergeant Stauffer was an avid fan of the LSU Tigers and an experienced Cajun culinary genius who enjoyed tantalizing the taste buds of those who were privileged to dine at his table with his masterful preparations of jambalaya, gumbo and crawfish; and

     WHEREAS, though he has traversed the river of life to now stand upon the celestial shores of Heaven, the legacy of Sergeant Stauffer's memory, which if put to music, would be a majestic symphonic masterpiece composed by the Holy Trinity, will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of his beloved survivors: wife, Beth; children, Dixie Breckenridge Stauffer and Kevin Gale (Skip) Stauffer, III; father, Kevin Gale Stauffer, Sr., (Kay); mother, Deborah Brangenberg (Carl);  sister, Caroline Turney (Brandon); stepsiblings, Scott Cooper, Chris Brangenberg and Carla Brangenberg; paternal grandmother, Dr. Dorothy Twiss Sinopoli; maternal grandparents, Dr. Roy and Mrs. Lorene McAlilly of Tupelo; and a host of other relatives, friends and colleagues; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to acknowledge the selflessness of an individual of Sergeant Stauffer's esteemed caliber who was devoted to a life of service and who left an indelible imprint on the lives of all he encountered through both his professional and Christian service:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commemorate the life, legacy and public service of Tupelo Police Sergeant Kevin Gale Stauffer, Jr., to whose family we express sincere and deepest sympathy upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Sergeant Kevin Gale Stauffer, Jr., the Tupelo Police Department and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
