A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMEMORATING THE LIFE, PUBLIC SERVICE AND MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE FORMER WARREN COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTY MARTIS "BUBBA" COMANS, AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, it is written in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that "To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, on March 13, 2017, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, former Warren County Sheriff's Deputy Martis "Bubba" Comans, to eternal rest, rendering great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, born on February 8, 1955, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, to his late parents, Mr. James Gilbert Comans and Mrs. Bobby Jean Leach Comans, Deputy Comans proudly served the Warren County Sheriff's Department for 25 years, before entering into retirement in 2015; and
WHEREAS, an outstanding and well-respected law enforcement officer by colleagues and citizens alike, Deputy Comans was
committed to serving and protecting the lives of all Warren County inhabitants and business establishments alike, who sought to maintain order and peace by curtailing crime before it could manifest during his watching, having established a venerable rapport that could diffuse a squabble by his mere presence on the scene alone; and
WHEREAS, mindful of the incomparable sacrifices made daily by law enforcement officers and first responder personnel who put their lives on the line for society's safety, Deputy Comans sought to hold the high office of Warren County Sheriff, running against his boss and the incumbent sheriff, Martin Pace, during the 2011 election cycle; and
WHEREAS, despite not having won the election, Deputy Comans remained good friends with his political opponent, and remained diligent in the performance of his duties, whether he was on call or not, his commitment to Warren County far exceeded the typical call of duty, as he was always readily available to provide whatever assistance necessary, both on the frontline and behind the scenes; and
WHEREAS, though he has traversed the river of life to reunite with those who have answered God's call to eternal life and beckon his arrival to the celestial shores of Heaven's grandeur, including his parents, a daughter, Sherry Comans, and a son, Bryan Thurston, the memory of Deputy Comans, a man held in the highest regard by family and friends as an inspiring and precious gift from God, will continue to refresh the hearts and memories of his beloved survivors: his loving wife of 17 years, Stacy (Thornton) Comans; children, Marty Comans, Bobby Comans, Marcus Comans, Dylon Roge, Taylor Roge, Dalton Thornton, Sunny Reese and Brook Dillon; siblings, James Comans, Ralph Comans and Susie Stewart; 14 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, colleagues and friends; and
WHEREAS, we encourage the family to find solace from the overwhelming sadness created by the earthly departure of their beloved family member in Revelation 21:4, wherein is recorded, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" and renewed in their faith that Deputy Comans fulfilled the commandment of II Timothy 4:7 by having "fought a good fight, finishing his course and keeping the faith" until the hour of his departure was at hand; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to mourn the loss and recognize the outstanding individual contributions of fine Mississippians, especially those such as Deputy Comans, whose unwavering commitment to preserving the peace as a law enforcement officer was a laudable trait admired by all who benefitted from his services and came to know this giant of a public servant:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commemorate the life, public service and many accomplishments of the former Warren County Sheriff's Deputy Martis "Bubba" Comans, and express deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Deputy Martis "Bubba" Comans, the Warren County Sheriff's Department and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
