A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE LARRY BAKER FOR HIS LEGISLATIVE LEGACY AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, Representative Larry Baker, an honored and cherished member of the Mississippi House of Representatives will make 2011 his last legislative year when he retires; and

     WHEREAS, the Honorable Larry Baker began his legislative service in 2000 after defeating the field of candidates vying to represent the citizens of District 8, which is composed of parts of DeSoto and Tate Counties, one of the more populous and fastest-growing areas of the state; and

     WHEREAS, a resident of Senatobia, Mississippi, in Tate County, Representative Baker has utilized the wisdom and experience he has accrued over the years to guide him in his duties as a valuable member of the important Agriculture, Constitution, Military Affairs and Ways and Means Committees; and

     WHEREAS, born January 1, 1940, in Tate County, Representative Larry Baker, after graduating from Senatobia High School, earned degrees from the University of the State of New York which prepared him for his honorable career in the military, and as a successful farmer and rancher; and

     WHEREAS, throughout the years, Representative Baker has utilized his leadership skills in the community as a member of the Mississippi and National Reserve Officers Associations, Gideon International, the Mississippi Cattlemen's Association, the Tate County Soil and Water Conservation District Association and the Tate County Economic and Development Foundation; and

     WHEREAS, during his tenure in the Legislature, he has developed a reputation as a member who represents the citizens of his district as a true gentleman of utmost integrity, and he will be greatly missed by his friends in the State Capitol; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Baker is of the Baptist faith, and he has been supported in every endeavor embarked upon by his family:  wife, the former Elinor Veazey, and children, Kurt, Jeana and D. Gill; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor one of our own, who has represented his district, as well as this legislative body, with honor and dignity:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Representative Larry Baker for his legislative legacy and congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement from the Mississippi House of Representatives.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Larry Baker and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
