A RESOLUTION COMMENDING DR. EUGENE MURPHEY FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF MISSISSIPPI AS A PHYSICIAN.

WHEREAS, Dr. Eugene M. Murphey, III, an internist at Internal Medicine Associates in Tupelo, Mississippi, has tirelessly devoted 65 years to bettering the health and well-being of his fellows through the practice of medicine; and

WHEREAS, born in West Point, Mississippi, and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Dr. Murphey realized at a very early age that he was called to be a doctor when he made house calls with his grandfather, a general physician in Macon, during his childhood summers; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Murphey, who entered college at Ole Miss in 1938, completed his medical education and started his career as a doctor in the United States Army right after World War II, in 1946; and

WHEREAS, that same year, Dr. Murphey married his wife, Margaret Anne, and in 1950, the young family relocated to Tupelo, the hometown of Dr. Murphey's mother, Margaret Joyner, where together they raised four children; and

WHEREAS, after 65 years, Dr. Murphey still practices medicine three and a half days a week at Internal Medicine Associates, the Tupelo clinic he and three other physicians founded in the 1970s which is now owned by North Mississippi Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, while he has experienced countless changes in the practice of medicine throughout his long and distinguished career, Dr. Murphey, who sees patients in the office but now relies on hospitalists to monitor those requiring inpatient treatment, proudly acknowledges that he would do it all over again if given the chance; and

WHEREAS, although Dr. Murphey, at 90 years young, hints that he has recently begun to contemplate retirement, he relishes his career in medicine, one that has been accented with numerous awards received in recognition of the care he has given his patients, stating, "I enjoy being with people and trying to help people."; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize Mississippians such as Dr. Eugene M. Murphey, III, a caring and compassionate physician who for 65 years has tirelessly dedicated his life to improving the health and overall well-being of his fellowman:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Dr. Eugene M. Murphey, III, for his many years of outstanding medical care as a physician serving the citizens of Mississippi and extend to him sincerest wishes for good health, joy and continued success in all of his future endeavors.
