A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DEDICATED SERVICE AND EXCEPTIONALLY REMARKABLE CAREER OF CHIEF WILLIAM KERRY MOORE TO THE TOWN OF WHEELER UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE WHEELER FIRE DEPARTMENT.

     WHEREAS, after a career spanning three decades of service to the citizens of Wheeler, Mississippi, William Kerry Moore, will retire his uniform as Chief of the Wheeler Fire Department, and will be honored with a retirement celebration on Saturday, April 13, 2013; and

     WHEREAS, the sixth Fire Chief to serve the Wheeler Fire Department, Chief Moore began his service as a fireman in 1983 and was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1987, and the post he held until being named Randy Moore's successor as Fire Chief in 2005; and

     WHEREAS, born in Booneville, Mississippi, and raised in Wheeler by his parents, Mrs. Betty Moore and the late Mr. Willie T. Moore, Kenny graduated from Wheeler High School, attended Northeast Mississippi Community College and received a certificate as a LPN before embarking upon his career of public servant to those individuals in his community as a nationally registered EMT and paramedic and heroic fireman; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his myriad of responsibilities as chief, he is faithful in his commitment to the Baptist church of which he is affiliated, in addition to the contribution of his efforts, faculties and resources to the social and civic arena in and throughout the Wheeler community; and

     WHEREAS, privileged to experience love, Kerry's chivalrous affection pierced the heart of Tonya Moore, to whom he united in marriage, becoming bone of one another's bone and flesh of one another's flesh; and

     WHEREAS, throughout the course of his life and career, as a working father, Chief Moore has been supported by his wife, Tonya; and daughters, Casey and Brandy; stepdaughter, Amber; their spouses; and grandchildren who all have encouraged and supported his every endeavor; and

     WHEREAS, upon the occasion of Chief Moore's retirement, there will not be a member of the Moore family serving the citizens of Wheeler as a member of the Wheeler Fire Department for the first time in 45 years, since the department's founding in 1968; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor remarkably selfless and talented individuals, such as Chief Moore, whose career serves as an example to all citizens of the State of Mississippi and whose legacy of service is exemplified by fairness, perseverance and prudent judgment:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the dedicated and distinguished career of exceptional service of Chief William Kerry Moore, congratulate him upon his retirement as the Chief of the Wheeler Fire Department, express acknowledgment to him for the hard work, and many sacrifices he made to serve the people of our state and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Chief Moore and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
