A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LONG BEACH HIGH SCHOOL BEARCATS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2010 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Long Beach High School Bearcats Girls Volleyball Team has completed yet another outstanding season of play in 2010, leaving nothing to chance and taking no prisoners in its quest to finally achieve their goal of reigning as state champions; and
WHEREAS, with an astonishing 30-6 record this year, the Bearcats won the Class II State Championship for the first time after reaching the championship game for the fourth straight year, avenging their championship loss to Lake Cormorant in 2009 by defeating the Gators in the 2010 championship by a score of 16-25, 25-18, 25-21 and 25-17; and
WHEREAS, the 2010 Long Beach Girls Volleyball Roster consisted of the following girls: Senior, Alli McCaleb; Juniors, Katheryn Adams, Heather Allen, Tori Clark and Brooke Moran; Sophomores, Julianna Fisher and Breann Hedin; and Freshman, Kahdijah Ross; and
WHEREAS, the Long Beach High School Bearcats have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Courtney Pollock, who worked tirelessly to refine the players' skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, at Long Beach High School, participation in athletics is viewed as an important component in the overall educational experience, as it fosters the development of sportsmanship, camaraderie and physical fitness; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the special accomplishments of student athletes such as the Long Beach High School Bearcats Girls Volleyball Team who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Long Beach High School Bearcats Girls Volleyball Team and Coach Courtney Pollock for their outstanding 2010 season and for winning the Class II State Championship, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Courtney Pollock, Principal Susan Whiten and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
