A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING LARRY EDWARD DUNCAN OF HATTIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI, FOR BEING NAMED AN EXTRAORDINARY EDUCATOR FOR 2020 BY CURRICULUM ASSOCIATES.

     WHEREAS, Curriculum Associates created the Extraordinary Educators program to celebrate and connect Best in Class teachers from across the nation; and

     WHEREAS, the 2020 Class of Extraordinary Educators includes an elite group of 31 teachers from across the country who illustrate growth and achievement via formal assessments, demonstrate classroom innovation and engagement practices for students, are evangelists for high standards and student achievement, and exhibit best-in-class use of i-Ready and/or Ready instructional resources designed by Curriculum Associates in their classroom; and

     WHEREAS, Larry Edward Duncan, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was named as an inductee of the 2020 Class of Extraordinary Educators, as he personifies the ideals that Curriculum Associates set forth with the program; and

     WHEREAS, Larry received his bachelor of science from Alcorn State University with endorsement in English and reading and began teaching in 2007, and has spent his entire teaching career in Mississippi, having lent his teaching expertise to Lillie Burney Elementary School in Hattiesburg, Oak Park Elementary in Laurel, and currently devotes his energy and talent as second grade instructor at George L. Hawkins Elementary School in Hattiesburg; and

     WHEREAS, for Larry, being a teacher is not just a profession, it is a mission, and reiterated in his commitment to make important and lasting impressions of positivity upon his students, whom he regards as, "Children, who are like clay, are molded and shaped by the hands of a good teacher"; and

     WHEREAS, Larry says, "No career, no work can be more rewarding than that of a teacher who is occupied in building the personality of a student in order to equip them to face the challenges of a competitive world in the throes of transition and change"; and

     WHEREAS, Larry loves teaching because he says, "Being with children is like being endowed with perpetual youth.  The love, laughter, mischief, creativity and imagination of children are like an eternal fountain of joy and vitality"; and

     WHEREAS, as being inducted into the 2020 Class of Extraordinary Educators, Larry has received recognition locally and nationally, he has gained access to a network of peers from around the country, earned professional development opportunities, and will have the opportunity to attend the Extraordinary Educators Leadership Summit in Boston, Massachusetts; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence in the accomplishments and remarkable service of educators of Mr. Duncan's exceptional caliber, who have tirelessly and selflessly devoted their lives to imparting light and knowledge into the bright scholars of this state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Larry Edward Duncan of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for being named as an inductee of the Curriculum Associates 2020 Class of Extraordinary Educators, and extend sincerest wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Larry Edward Duncan and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
