A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING PAIGE NICHOLSON FOR WINNING THE MISS RODEO AMERICA 2014 TITLE.

     WHEREAS, Lawrence, Mississippi, is home to Paige Nicholson, Miss Rodeo Mississippi 2013 and Miss Rodeo 2014; and

     WHEREAS, Paige is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Information Science.  She plans to obtain a Law Degree from the University of Mississippi and pursue a career that allows her to be an advocate for agriculture and protect the western way of life; and

     WHEREAS, the Miss Rodeo America organization spans the country, bringing together rodeo enthusiasts for the yearly pageant and competition to select and crown Miss Rodeo America from among America's state rodeo queens.  For over 50 years, Miss Rodeo America has traveled the length and breadth of our country, promoting the sport of rodeo and the western way of life; and

     WHEREAS, the Miss Rodeo America Pageant is held annually in conjunction with the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Reigning State Rodeo Queens compete for the coveted crown of Miss Rodeo America by competing in the area of appearance, horsemanship, and personality.  The Miss Rodeo America Pageant offers young women the opportunity to garner one of the richest experiences of their lives, while at the same time create solid foundations for their future endeavors.  Lifelong friendships are made and many doors are opened to all competitors, as well as the young lady selected to wear the coveted crown.  Miss Rodeo America becomes a part of a great legacy and part of history--yesterday, today, and tomorrow; and

     WHEREAS, when time allows, Paige enjoys:  horseback riding, team roping, barrel racing, fishing, boating, working on her family's Beef Cattle and Row Crop Farm and writing for The Cattle Business in Mississippi Magazine.  Paige has served as a volunteer for the 4-H Horse Project, Relay for Life, and assisting as a Special Needs Horse Show Instructor.  "Volunteering has allowed me to build connections in several communities in my state.  Service fosters camaraderie and fellowship in groups of volunteers while giving hope and support to recipients"; and

     WHEREAS, Paige stated that "it will be an honor to officially represent an organization whose values so closely resemble my own.  I believe families should always look out for each other, and that developing and educating the next generation is our greatest responsibility in life.  Miss Rodeo America is an outstanding example of a young lady, a cowgirl, and a person who is strong in character.  It is my wish that each person I meet becomes a true rodeo fan, and that I can tell the story of agriculture and the western way of life with knowledge and enthusiasm"; and

     WHEREAS, Paige is a wonderful Ambassador for the State of Mississippi and we commend her record of achievement in her avocation and her service as a positive example for the young people of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and congratulate Paige Nicholson, Miss Rodeo Mississippi 2013, for representing our state and winning the prestigious Miss Rodeo America 2014 Pageant Title, and extend to Paige and her family our best wishes for future success as she serves as the First Lady of Professional Rodeo.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Paige Nicholson, forwarded to the Miss Rodeo America Association and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
